Install cameras — zero-touch, or scan and tick
Set every new camera at a site to the site's login, plug it in, done. Every 5 minutes the fleet sweeps the node's LANs (and any extra subnets below), follows cameras it knows to whatever IP DHCP gave them (identity = MAC), and adopts unknown cameras whose login matches a camera profile. What it cannot log into waits in the list below for you.
Camera profiles
One login per site (or per vendor). Auto-add on: cameras that accept it are added by themselves. A refused login is not retried for 30 min so a camera never locks the fleet out.
Sweep
Networks the sweep covers: the node's own LANs, plus the /24 of every camera already added. Add a subnet the node reaches through a router (a parent LAN, a Tailscale route) if new cameras live there.
Found, not yet added
Cameras the sweep saw whose login it does not have. Fix the profile (or type a login here) and adopt, or ignore; an ignored camera comes back next sweep if it is still there.

Add one RTSP camera by URL
A third-party camera (Hikvision, Dahua, …) MediaMTX pulls on your behalf. Hikvision main stream: rtsp://IP:554/Streaming/Channels/101 (sub stream: …/102). Put the login in its own boxes: any character is fine there, the server encodes it into the URL.
